The finals to find the best student chef from the International Hotel School took place on the 3 September 2021 at IHS Pretoria. After going through 3 gruelling stages, students earned the chance to prove themselves amongst their peers, and to be known as the best student chef in the nation. The IHS Championship Cup is an annual inter-campus Culinary Arts competition, open to all current students.
The competition consisted of three stages that will test, stretch and expose any shortcomings in their culinary skills. After it all, the winning team gets a trophy and a certificate, with prizes like 1st – R1500 voucher, 2nd – R750 voucher and finally 3rd – R500 voucher.
- Stage 1 – Students entered at their campus by submitting a recipe of their own creation for a starter, main or dessert with a photo of the plated dish – made at home. The senior Culinary Arts lecturer and staff choose their Top 10 entries.
- Stage 2 – These Top 10 students cooked in a mystery basket challenge, to create two dishes (starter, main or dessert). The 1st and 2nd placed winners from this stage, then represented their Campus in the national round.
- Stage 3 – Each campus team competed in a mystery box challenge. They had to create a starter, main and dessert within an allotted time.
A very big congratulations to Thato Olivia Molekoa and Natasha Nakita Kleynhans from team Pretoria, with 2nd place – IHS Johannesburg, 3rd place – IHS Cape Town and 4th place – IHS Durban. These amazing students and schools made this event amazing, and till next year because we’ll be doing it again. These competitions help build campus comradery, skills, and supplements their educational growth.
