Culinary arts vs hospitality management

There’s no denying that the hospitality industry at large is experiencing substantial growth and development in many sectors, and this positive growth trend is set to increase over the next two decades. This makes our industry incredibly valuable for those school leavers who are looking for a lasting career in a holiday world. And with the variety of hospitality courses on offer at International Hotel School, we’ve got a serious question to ask you…

Culinary Arts opens a world of opportunities in this creative but disciplined industry. Having a natural flair for flavours, a passion for food and a love of creating outstanding menus and recipes are just some of the skills and attributes needed to become a successful chef, destined for greatness. On the other hand, hotel managers and supervisors with strong leadership abilities, excellent communication skills and the ability to motivate and manage people well make a highly sought after management graduate for any leading hotel. So, our question to you is this….

How our study programme work:

Full-time study:

  • These programmes consist of 50% academic (classroom) study and 50% work integrated learning (practical) which takes place in leading hospitality establishments.
  • The programme’s equal emphasis on both academic and work integrated learning ensures that graduates are job-ready.
  • You pay a tuition fee and need to cover the costs of your transport and accommodation.

 Traineeship studies

  • Based on well-established apprenticeship principles, a Traineeship is an alternative to full-time tertiary education.
  • Practical training is undertaken in the workplace and theoretical study takes place by way of distance learning through our IHS Online Campus.
  • Trainees are selected via a series of interviews to be trained at a Hotel.
  • You pay a tuition fee and need to cover the costs of your transport and accommodation, however, Trainees are paid a monthly stipend.
  • You need your own computer with internet capability to make contact with your on-line tutors.

It’s not always easy to know which career path to choose, let alone which tertiary education provider to enrol with. Our Open Days are the very best way to find out more. We go through all of our programmes in detail, we offer you a tour of the campus and we get our current students to chat to you about what it’s really like to study hospitality management or culinary arts. They’ll also give you the lowdown on what it’s like to study at IHS – we’re very confident that they will answer absolutely any question you may have, with honesty and integrity. Open days last about 2 hours and they are free to attend (and you’re more than welcome to bring a friend or parent along.)

Another way you can find out more is to book a consultation with one of our sales consultants on campus. All you need to do is the ring the campus closest to you, ask for a sales consultant and set up a meeting time.

If you can’t get to our campus right now, feel free to browse our website for all the information, or check out our blog, Facebook Page, Twitter account or Instagram pics for inspiration.
