Durban Campus picks up their #NekNominationSA and runs with it!

About #NekNominationSAs

Deciding to turn a potentially risky game into a charitable platform for those less fortunate, the #NekNomination game was turned around by South African Brent Lindeque who decided that instead of downing a pint and nominating friends to do the same, that giving something to those less fortunate was a better way to Pay It Forward.  And so began the #NekNominationSA which has our campuses nominating each other to make a meaningful difference to people’s lives.

Durban Campus takes the challenge

Not to be outdone by the IHS Cape Town Campus, this week saw the Durban Campus spring to action after receiving a #NekNominationSA from the Cape Town Campus last week (in case you missed it, here’s a link for you to take a look

After discussions with the students and staff, they decided that they wanted to #ChangeOneThing in the communities near them, and they chose 3 Children’s Homes in the area to do this in.

The way it went down

Students from each Durban Campus class brought toys, old clothes or money to donate to 3 different orphanages. Excess monies through student donations and SRC fundraising activities such as Hot Dog Day, Popcorn Sales and Civvies Day also brought in some extra cash to use towards purchasing toys, maize meal and rice. The culinary department (staff and students) also baked cupcakes and iced them with pretty colours and lots of love. The Durban team really pulled together to make it happen, enjoying every step of the way from the planning, to the delivery to the emotional journey that played out.

Bophela Shuttle Services  kindly provided the Durban team with a free shuttle service to deliver the goods to the following 3 orphanages:

  • Sibusisiwe Children’s Home in Inchanga which houses and cares for 13 children.

The end result
