Traineeship in Professional Cookery Programme

Work while you learn – Fees apply

  • 2-year programmes
  • Minimum entry requirement – National Senior Certificate with a Higher Certificate entry pass or equivalent
  • Programmes commence each year in January and July.
  • Trainee allowance is dependent on the property at which they are placed

Programme structure is based on an ‘work while you learn’ basis, with trainees placed at one of the International Hotel School’s partner hotels for in-service Work Integrated Learning for which they are paid a monthly allowance equivalent to the industry minimum wage in their first year, with annual reviews. Trainees’ studies are through online learning with lecture support and they are assessed in the workplace.

During this programme students will complete the following ancillary courses:

  • Wine Service
  • Basic Fire Fighting
  • Basic First Aid

Professional Cookery Programme

Upon Successful Completion the Graduates will receive:

  • IHS Higher Certificate in Food & Beverage Management (NQF Level 5) (SAQA ID No: 88063 )
  • City & Guilds Diploma in Food Preparation and Cooking (Culinary Arts)

Upon Successful Completion the Graduates will receive:

  • IHS Higher Certificate: Food and Beverage Management (NQF Level 5) (SAQA ID No: 88063)
  • OR
  • Higher Certificate in Hospitality Management Programme

    Upon Successful Completion the Graduates will receive:

    • IHS Higher Certificate: Hospitality Management (NQF Level 5) (SAQA ID No 88062)
