Why should I choose to study at IHS?

Firstly, our qualifications are nationally and internationally recognised. IHS is registered with the South African Department of Higher Education and Training as both a Private Higher Education Institute and provisionally registered as a Private FET College.  Our students are sought after, both locally and abroad once they have completed their programme with us. Secondly, practical industry experience is a vital part of the knowledge and skills you need to become a world class Hospitality or Culinary Professional.

Our Work Integrated Learning (practical training) which takes place at leading hospitality establishments is what sets us apart from our competitors.  For the duration of their programme, students will spend 50% of the programme on the campus covering the academic curriculum and 50% of the programme in industry.  When students leave the programme, they are job ready. Finally, jobs are not difficult to come by when you have a qualification from the International Hotel School.  We also have a great system in place to help students find jobs...but we’ll tell you more about that in the next question.

Realistically, how hard is it to find a job when I graduate?

The International Hotel School's international recognition and status as a leading provider of quality hospitality education has led to us having an excellent placement rate in our 20 years of operation. The International Hotel School prides itself in recruiting the cream of the crop from aspirant, energetic, passionate young people who, when qualified, are headhunted all over the world, and reach top positions within the hospitality industry. We offer a number of programmes to assist our graduates with finding job placements and we use our network of industry contacts to assist with placements locally and abroad. We’re really proud of that fact.

What if I can’t afford the fees?

We have a few payment option facilities to help you pay off your fees. Here, an initial deposit payment due when you are accepted (ranging from R3500 to R6000 depending on which course you are doing). Then you can choose from three “Payment Elections”

  • Option 1: Early payment – 7.5% discount
  • Option 2: Full Payment by registration day –  2.5% discount
  • Option 3: Instalment payments – Interest Free

Down the line, how easy is it to add to my qualifications?

The International Hotel School Online Campus, IHS Online is an online platform for staff in the hospitality industry to improve and update their knowledge or for those interested in studying without the commitment of attending a course full time. Each course module carries a final examination (paper-based) completed at an approved centre. Students receive a textbook (paper-based) for each course. All other materials including study guides, notes, quizzes, and self-assessment questions are distributed through the online learning site. IHS Online has a wide range of single subjects which lead to various nationally and internationally-recognised courses ranging from IHS Higher Certificate in Hospitality Management NQF Level 5 (SAQA ID No: 88062) and IHS Higher Certificate in Food and Beverage Management NQF Level 5 (SAQA ID No: 88063) to AHLEI Specialisation Certificates and Diplomas.

Students may choose to study courses individually or in subject groups. By following a structured learning pathway students can achieve certificates of departmental specialisation or South African registered NQF Level 5 Certificates and full AHLEI Industry Professional Diplomas. Subjects can be chosen such that they lead from one qualification to another.

Good morning. Please may you advise on which courses are available for someone like me. I am 32 years old. I see that for Hospitality management you have a cut off age. Though I look very young, my ID says something else. Good day.
