The International Hotel School seeks to quality assure its programmes through membership of a number of bodies, both educational and professional, who have an interest in promoting high standards within the hospitality industry. Our courses are both nationally and internationally accredited, and we believe that learning should be reinforced with practical training in the workplace (work integrated learning).
The Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET)
The International Hotel School is registered as a Private Higher Education Institution with the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) for the programmes as per Registration No: 2000/HE07/005
Council on Higher Education
The International Hotel School and its Higher Education programmes are accredited (quality assured) by the Council on Higher Education (CHE)
Further Education and Training
The International Hotel School is Provisionally registered as a Private FET College with DHET for the qualifications as per Registration No: 2009/FE07/077 (Expiry date: 31/12/2015)
At IHS we offer a number of Cathsseta (the Culture, Art, Tourism, Hospitality and Sport Sector Education and Training Authority, is the Sector Education and Training Authority (SETA) established under the Skills Development Act (No 97 of 1998) [the Skills Act] for the Tourism, Hospitality and Sport Economic Sector) accredited programmes within our Traineeship and Christina Martin Culinary Arts programmes.
All qualifications in South Africa need to be registered with the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA). Our two Full Time Diploma Programmes are registered with SAQA. (Look up International Hotel School as an Accredited Provider in this search link) Our CATHSSETA and City and Guilds courses are all registered with SAQA under the names of the training authority.

Through our long association with AHLEI, IHS has access to the wide range of books, programmes, videos, and web-based learning material which shows students how to apply the concepts they learn in the classroom. This material is constantly updated to meet industry needs. As the only hotel school in South Africa whose diplomas are recognised by the AHLEI, our graduates are highly sought after by leading hospitality establishments locally and internationally.
City and Guilds
City & Guilds Group is the UK's leading vocational awarding organisation. All of The International Hotel School physical campuses are City and Guilds centres, and a number of City & Guilds certificate courses are offered as part of our Hotel Operations, Culinary Arts and Traineeship programmes. Confederation of Tourism & Hospitality
The Confederation of Tourism and Hospitality (CTH) is the UK’s leading professional awarding body for qualifications in the specialist growing hospitality and tourism sector worldwide.
Over the last 30 years CTH has focused on developing and adding value to careers in the industry, globally. CTH was established in 1982 as a specialist professional body in the UK to focus on the training needs of new entrants to the hospitality and tourism industries, and now has accredited colleges worldwide delivering sought after CTH qualification.
CTH ensures its quality through its approved status with Ofqual and the QCA’s UK accredited qualification framework. All qualifications are developed in conjunction with the UK Sector Skills Council, People1st, to ensure relevance, value and quality. This approach guarantees that CTH qualifications are valued by employers throughout the world.
The International Hotel School is a CTH approved training centre and their Diploma in Professional Culinary Arts has been designed in partnership with Gordon Ramsay’s Tante Marie Culinary Academy. This programme is offered exclusively at our Plettenberg Bay Campus.
