Culinary Arts

  • Minimum entry requirement – Grade 10, although a Senior Certificate is recommended
  • Courses commence each year in January and July.

This intensive cookery programme provides students with both the theory and practical cookery skills needed to pursue a career in the field of Professional Cookery. To provide an opportunity for further study, a career pathway has been mapped for those who wish to continue their studies.  Students have an option to do an additional second year in either the Patisserie Programme (6 months) or City & Guilds Culinary Supervision Programme (6 months), or both. These programmes can be done individually or concurrently during the same year, provided they begin at any time after completing the 1st year of study.

[TEXT GRAPHIC] Practical industry experience is a vital part of the knowledge and skills you need to become a world class Hospitality or Culinary Professional.  Our Work Integrated Learning (practical) which takes place at leading hospitality establishments is what sets us apart from our competitors.  For the duration of their programme, students will spend 50% of the programme on the campus covering the academic curriculum and 50% of the programme in industry.  When students leave the programme, they are job ready.[TEXT GRAPHIC]

Upon successful completion of this programme, graduates will receive:

  • National Certificate in Professional Cookery NQF  4 (SAQA ID No: 14111)
  • City & Guilds Diploma in Food Preparation and Cooking (Culinary Arts)

During this programme students will complete the following ancillary courses:

  • Wine Service
  • Basic Fire Fighting
  • Basic First Aid
