18 year-old Nhlanhla Msweli from Adams Mission near Amanzimtoti was the lucky winner of the Durban leg of The International Hotel School Bursary Competition in 2011.

IHS Bursary Competition

Each year, the IHS is on the lookout for three students – one for each of its campuses. These students win their tuition fees for any IHS programme for the duration of their studies – a prize that is valued at up to R180 000!

Msweli enrolled at IHS in 2012 and is now a second year student studying towards a three year Hospitality Management Programme at the Durban campus.

This young, vibrant, active and highly motivated future Hotelier is a triplet with two sisters and started his love for the hospitality industry in 2009. “I had a choice of doing an additional subject in grade 10 where I chose Hospitality Studies. This is where my passion for the industry was developed,” he said.

What Msweli loves most about IHS is that they are true to their word, keep their promises and provide exceptional academic and practical support to the students.

IHS is an experience of a lifetime as you get to go through an induction where you learn about fire fighting, wine tasting, coffees and where they originated… all I can say is that it has been an amazing journey thus far and IHS has been my stepping stone to reach my goals,” he comments.

In the years to come Msweli sees himself completing his Diploma, working across the world and gaining different experience in the industry whilst saving for his future investments.

Why is only one winner on if there is 2 winners for 2011. Dedre du Plessis was the winner for the full time studies.

Hi Vumani - you can submit them directly to the campus - which campus are you looking at entering at? Do you have their contact details?

Hi Marie - you are absolutely correct. Dedre won a bursary to study full time, and Nhlanhal won the bursary to study through Traineeship. We have profiled Dedre seperately in the following articles: http://www.hotelschool.co.za/2013/05/international-hotel-school-making-d... and http://www.hotelschool.co.za/2012/02/bursary-competition-winners-2011/ and then if you would like to read about her time on the bursary competiton you can follow her time at http://www.hotelschool.co.za/2011/07/day-three-of-durban-boot-camp/.
