Enter the International Hotel School (IHS) Bursary Competition, and you could win a bursary valued at R160 000 to study full-time for three years at the International Hotel School.
It could be your ticket to the world
Whether you want to cruise the globe, work in exclusive hotels and resorts, manage international events, mingle with the stars in luxury bush and ski lodges, or create fine cuisine in your own restaurant – with an internationally recognised hospitality diploma, the opportunities are endless!
If 2011 is your Matric year, then this competition is for you! You don’t even need to be taking a hospitality-related subject at school.
Choose a project
To win the R160 000 bursary, all you need to do is submit a portfolio for your chosen project.
Your first option is to prepare a menu for a 3 course meal, cook it, and serve it to guests from your community, family, school, or staff from IHS. Your portfolio would include evidence such as photographs of your meal and the event.
Your second option is to plan a function or event such as a golf tournament, a gala dinner, an exhibition, or similar. You don’t have to hold the event, just plan it from start to finish, including location, venue, menus, themes, advertising, marketing, ticketing, and more. Your portfolio would include a complete marketing plan and operational/management plan.
Your third option is to submit a project on environmental sustainability in the hospitality industry.
And together with whichever project you choose, you must submit a 300 – 500 word essay explaining why you want to study at IHS.
Where to from there?
Your deadline to submit your project portfolio is Friday 13th May. Semi-finalists will be chosen to compete in a regional cook-off, table setting and cocktail making event, where five finalists will be selected to take part in Boot Camp 2011.
The five finalists will get to spend a week competing in Boot Camp at the Indaba Hotel and Conference Centre in Fourways from 10th – 15th July 2011, where they’ll be put through their paces working in each department and being judged on a series of tasks.
